Dear Family & Friends,
This year we celebrate 25 years in missions for Our Lord. Our children haved thrived with your support, we have built our church and assisted the village elderly and needful. All glory to God! Here are some pictures from Sunday's service and preparing bags of food for delivery. Dear Family and Friends!
God, in all His wisdom and Glory has sent Shannon and Lee Helton as the 2nd generation of our family to be His hands and feet in Nicoresti! We are so happy that these two are perfect for our Outreach program, it has needed to be extended for years. Shannon & Lee will also be working in the homes, our daughter, Shannon will be at Casa Hannah and Lee, our son-in-law will be at Casa Rachel with the boys. To see the excitement on their faces reminds us of ourselves as we boarded that plane in 1991. Please pray with us that all 4 of us continue to follow His plan, speak the words He has prepared and touch the hearts of those who need Him so badly. Sandie & Bruce DARKE COUNTY — In May, Lee and Shannon Helton will be joining her parents, Sandie and Bruce Tanner, to work for their mission, Tanner Romania Mission (TRM), in Romania. “A few years ago, Mom and Dad asked if Lee and I would consider moving to Romania and working with them at the mission, the end goal being to ensure the mission would continue on when they were no longer able to serve as the leaders,” Shannon said. “I was open to the idea but was unsure of what Lee’s response would be. He was a new Christian at the time and the leap from new Christian to missionary is a big one. He immediately said he would be interested. Since that day, we have been praying and discerning if it was what God wanted us to do. Over the last several years, we have had the opportunity to learn and serve through our church in Tipp City. As we grew in our faith, we are able to see it is God’s plan for our life to be a part of TRM and to ensure those that the mission helps will always have a home and refuge.” Helton said there are 23 orphans who live at the mission in Nicoresti who will always need care due to their disabilities that range from mild to severe. “We have been to the mission many times over the years and we feel everyone of them are our family, we could not say no,” Shannon said. Helton said she has worked at the distribution center for Meijer for the last 17 years and noted that husband Lee is an over-the-road truck driver. “We will quit our jobs at the end of April and move to Romania May 11,” she said. Her family moved to Greenville in 1986 and Shannon graduated from Greenville High in 1989. Her husband was born and raised in Dayton, and today they reside in Tipp City. The Heltons as well as the Tanners will be working together in the mission. “My parents have no plans of ever leaving Nicoresti until the Lord calls them home,” Shannon said. “Lee and I have so much to learn we are praying for many years of working side by side.” In addition to helping with the daily activities of the 23 orphans living at TRM, the Heltons plan to expand the outreach into the community. “We will work with the village children in an after-school program as well as hold community events where food, clothing, Bibles and prayer will be offered,” Shannon said. “The mission will also be able to take in more orphans because or our addition to TRM.” The Heltons were married in 2005. “We are thrilled to celebrate our 10-year anniversary in Romania this summer,” she said. “We met at work (Meijer) in 2003. I have one 19-year-old daughter, Rachel, from a previous marriage. She will be staying in America.” The Heltons’ home church is Ginghamsburg United Methodist Church in Tipp City. “We have served in many roles there over the last 10 years,” said Shannon. “I am a care pastor there and Lee serves with the children’s ministry. Our true passion is mission outside of the church walls. I have worked for years with New Path, serving clients in need of food and assistance. Lee and I have also led a mission team to Chicago each December for the last five years. We have a lot to learn but feel God is equipping us for each new step He asks us to take. TRM will be celebrating 25 years this year and has been able to help 49 orphans onto better lives during that time. TRM took in a new girl this past September and she is all smiles, finally having a family to love her. We have no idea why God called our family to be His hands and feet in Romania, but we feel so blessed to be able to be His servants in this way.” Her parents, the Tanners, were called to Romania to care for the disabled and abandoned children who filled the orphanage in this small village. Forty-eight children have passed through the homes, some to adoption, many in local foster care, which the Tanners support and supervise. Tanner Romania Mission was built by God in 1991, in Nicoresti, Romania. Twenty-one young adults remain, three in high school. These youngsters will always call Tanner Mission home and Bruce and Sandie, “Tata” and “Mama,”respectively. The mission also assists the widows and widowers and young mothers with children in Nicoresti. Everyone is kept busy in workshops, making and selling their crafts, helping Sandie with assisting the poor with food and clothing, as well as keeping their own homes neat and tidy, even the yard work and gardening. Linda Moody Features Editor The Daily Advocate March 22, 2015 Dear Family & Friends,
All the residents, workers, widows and our poor elderly wish to thank you for your prayer and financial support for 2014. There are always some hard times but the sunshine outweighs the dark. Your donations touch so many in the village, the children of course, any child knows this is a place where someone will listen to their problems and help with food or financial needs. No one goes without shoes like the old days, children are all in school unless the parents forbid it. We have stepped into our 25th year of raising funds and spreading the word of Jesus. We have lost all those years with our US family but we have followed Him, we made the right decision. God bless you all, we are not done yet, spring will bring new gardens and new work from Our Lord and Leader, Jesus Christ! Bruce & Sandie Tanner have taken on a mission for their off days!
Below are pictures of a man who lives very poorly alone and the women have started by cleaning and delivering one hot meal per day. Bravo ladies! TRM will provide for his needs and add him to our Widows Mission. Prayerfully, in spring volunteers will paint and repair the house, giving him a livable home. We always offer the elderly a home with us but no one ever wants to leave their own home no matter how bad it is. Dear Friends and Family
The garden is all canned in jars or frozen in freezers and we are getting the houses ready for the long winter. Funds were raised in Ireland for a new furnace for Casa Elisabeta (Sandie, Bruce & the girls live here) and its working great, just had a tryout. We had a gas furnace prior and now we are saving money by burning with wood. All 4 homes now heat with wood. We have taken a new little girl, Andreea, she arrived 1 month ago. She has Cerebral Palsy and a few minor problems that can be helped. Getting her weight up to normal is our first priority. She will be 4 yrs old in November. She is a real sweetie! Workshops are going very well, Mariana and I are starting some new button jewelry and hope it works. Mariana appears to have some changes happening, she does not respond as usual and may have had a small stroke, no evidence except working close with her, I can see she is slower and sometimes confused. Maybe she is just getting old like me! Next summer, our daughter and her husband will be joining the mission permanently, they are raising their own funding and their focus from God is outreach! We have been praying for years for some true Christians to help us in this area. Their names are Lee and Shannon Helton. Please check out their info on TRM website and perhaps you too will feel called to a short term mission with them! God bless you all for your continued faithfulness to God by supporting these children and elderly of Nicoresti. Bruce & Sandie Tanner http://www.tannerromaniamission.com/ Dear Friends and Family,
Seasons change and God seems to push us along into yet another gorgeous spring! Everyone is well, no illnesses other than the chronic ones we deal with. We still are keeping Georgie at home in semi isolation, using gloves, masks, separate utilities, we cannot bear to put him in the TB hospital where he will surely die from lack of care. So he lives like a little king in his private room and we are doing everything we can to protect the other children. It has worked wonders with God's direction, Georgie has had no sick days the whole winter! He has not been active TB since he left the hospital more than two years ago. Doctor visits monthly. School kids, Anca, Petrica and Constantin are doing well. They will never be up to the other students because of late starts but they are all living their Christian values and isn't that the most important for them? Next year is a real Halleluiah for the mission, our daughter Shannon and her husband Lee are joining us permanently and are in the midst of their fund raising now! 2015 marks the 25th Anniversary of Tanner Romania Mission as well as Bruce and Sandie's 40th Wedding Anniversary! There will be a celebration party in June, all the village and our friends are welcome. We are sorry the newsletters are few, we ask that you check our website and join us on Facebook for our day to day happenings, God is blessing us daily but sorry to say the arthritis is keeping my hands from typing. We plan on taking 3 more children this year, its moving so slow now, not like the old days when I could just walk in and pick up a child and tell them, we will raise him! God bless you all for your prayers and financial donations. We stand bold before God and ask you to stay with us, push us on to do even more for His Kingdom!
