Picture
Adina Ciuria

Birthday:
December 22, 1979
Gender: Female
Location:
Nicoresti, Romania

About Adina:
Adina was abandoned at birth by her mother because she is a Little Person.
Adina is one of the most pleasant of our children, always happy unless someone hurts her feelings, then she still needs Tata & Mama.
She works around the house and the garden, is kept busy mornings in our workshop which makes lovely cross stitch and wood items that are then sold to support the workshop and salaries of the children.  Adina is the first to help out and loves going to the elderly to visit.  Adina has no other medical problems except she is short and she considers this an advantage!

Your monthly contribution of $50 would go towards Adina's living expenses— food, shelter, clothing, and any medical expenses. Prayerfully consider giving toward her care and contact Sandie for bank information or use the Paypal option on this site.

Gelu Dima

Birthday:
March 22, 1984
Gender:   Male
Location:
Casa Rachel, Nicoresti, Romania

About Gelu:
Gelu is our charmer!  He really loves his mission parents and is not afraid to show it, always making gifts for Mama Sandie and Tata Bruce.  He also has his natural parents who have visited and now phone often.  He would prefer to live at home but the parents are too poor.
Gelu attends workshop, he is the woodworker and painter, he also makes lovely paintings on silk and frames them for sale.  He is a member of the TRM church choir and has a lovely voice.  He is wheelchair bound and has no use of his legs, he does have an electric wheelchair donated from Italy that gets him where he wants to go.
The boys at Casa Rachel chop all their own wood for winter, Gelu is able to help by dragging a wagon full to the barn.  This young man is so pleasant to spend time with you automatically gravitate to him!

Your monthly contribution of $50 would go towards Gelu’s living expenses— food, shelter, clothing, and any medical expenses. Prayerfully consider giving toward his care.

Maricica

Picture
Maricica Stanescu

Birthday: Sept. 24, 1976
Gender:  Female
Location:
Nicoresti, Romania

About Maricica:
Now here is a girl after any mama's heart!  She was born the year we were married, so God had this plan for us years before we knew!

Maricica was the meanest girl at the orphanage, she rebelled at everything, often combative and the other children feared her.  When I brought her home to Casa Elisabeta, the other kids in the house groaned.  But God changed all that in just a few weeks.  Now she is the most reliable and loving young woman, she goes everywhere with Mama Sandie, it started in 1991 and is that way today.  The other children in the family look to her for help and answers to problems.

Maricica loves gardening and working with animals, she is gentle and loving, always asking herself, is this what Jesus wants?

Your monthly contribution of $50 would go towards Maricica’s living expenses— food, shelter, clothing, and any medical expenses. Prayerfully consider giving toward her care.

Gender:  Male
Location:
Casa Hannah, Nicoresti, Romania

About Mihai:
Mihai, second boy sitting here with Alex, needs total care.  He is unable to feed himself or even speak.  His diagnosis is severe retardation, however anyone can see something else is going on like cerebral palsy.

Mihai's activities are limited to daily massages and stretching exercises, spends most of the mornings outside under the tent since it gets as hot as Texas here in summer!  He loves to eat and its great fun introducing new foods to him, like ice cream!

Mihai was abandoned at birth and came to Nicoresti when he was 3 yrs old, he has lived with us since 2002.

Your monthly contribution of $50 would go towards Mihai’s living expenses— food, shelter, clothing, and any medical expenses. Prayerfully consider giving toward his care.

Mariana  Lazar

Birthday  June 4, 1979
Gender    Female
Location: Casa Hannah
      Nicoresti, Romania

About Mariana:
Mariana is among our fastest learners and communicates by sign language.  Assertive by nature, she is always ready to help, often exceeding our expectations.
Mariana was one of three original residents in our first group home, Casa Elisabeta, in 1993. She loves her Bible, is quick to raise her hands in praise of our Lord and participates in the rhythm section of our little choir.
Her birth mother passed away when Mariana was an infant, but Mariana was eventually able to find her genetic father who is a lifelong fishman but suffers from back ailments; Mariana constantly prays for him.
Mariana is roommate with Adina at Casa Hannah where she assists in supervising our 6 residents who are afflicted with severe physical and mental handicaps.

Your monthly contribution of $50 would go towards Mariana's living expenses— food, shelter, clothing, and any medical expenses. Prayerfully consider giving toward her care.
Gheorghe

GHEORGHE CIOCOI

Birhday: Oct 2, 1982

Gender: Male

Location: Casa Hannah
                 Nicoresti,
                 Romania

Gheorghe has resided at Casa Hannah since 2004, having spent most of his childhood in the state run institution in Nicoresti, then being transferred to an adult facility in Ganesti.

Unacceptable conditions for anyone, Gheorghe's situation, with his severe physical and mental reductions, was especially urgent.  So, at the first chance, we proceeded with the necessary documentation to bring him to our mission.

At first, Gheorghe showed a suspicious attitude and infrequently abusive behavior.  But before the year was out, he changed into the gregarious, welcoming person he is today.

Your monthly contribution of $50 would go towards Gheorghe's living expenses--food, shelter, clothing and medical costs.  Prayerfully consider giving toward his care.
Costel
Picture
COSTEL BALMUS

Birthday: Oct 3, 1982

Gender:  Male

Location: Casa Rachel
                  Nicorești
                  România

Despite being confined to the wheelchair, Costel has
a cheerful disposition and a gloriously haunting singing
voice.  He is a faithful participant in the workshop

and specializes in painting details.

At Casa Rachel, Costel is roommate with Nicușor and
is resposible for keeping order.  He has a healthy appetite
and because of that and the aging process, he has to
watch his weight.
.

Costel was among the first residents we welcomed into
Casa Rachel in the fall of 1999.  Plus he was one of the first we fell in love with when we started to work at the state run institution back in 1991.

Your monthly contribution of $50 would go towards Costel's living
expenses— food, shelter, clothing, and any medical expenses.
Prayerfully consider giving toward his care

Petrica
Picture
PETRICA VASILIU

Birthday: Oct 5, 1993

Gender: Male

Location: Casa Rachel
                  Nicorești
                  România

Petrica has made great strides since coming straight from the local children's home to our mission in 1999.  The first order of business was potty training, and that little success allowed him to take off from there.

He participated in our private school and before long we realized he may be able to make it in the local, normal school.  So he was accepted in kindergarten, through the years progressing all through high school, where he focused on assembling thermopane windows and doors.

Because Petrica was helping so much at our mission in many capacities, we decided to hire him on a half-time basis.  He not only assists with the boys confined to wheelchairs, he performs minor repairs, leads the choir and plays the piano at Sunday services and helps visitors with translation.

Petrica's skills have been a hindrance in a way, as he is often overlooked as not needing the attention and care that the other residents receive.  His official status as a handicapped person was removed long ago, and because of that he gets no advantages from the government.

Your monthly contribution of $50 would go towards Petrica's living
expenses— food, shelter, clothing, and any medical expenses.
Prayerfully consider giving toward his care.

Anca

ANCAMIHAELA MITU

Birthday: June 18,1993

Gender: Female

Location: Casa Miriam                                Nicorești
                  România

Anca learned from Sandie how to cook a wide variety of meals.  She is the leader of our daily workshop sessions, where 12 of our residents participate in creating greeting cards, Christmas ornaments and other novelties which hopefully can be sold abroad to help raise funds.

Intensely interested in the Gospel, she spent every Saturday for 2 years in a nearby city park, evangelizing and encouraging people to love Jesus.  She sings in our choir and reads scripture at our Sunday morning worship services.

Anca had hoped to find employment after graduating from vocational high school where she concentrated on clothing design; but being unable to do so, we hired her part-time at the mission.

Anca is one of the few residents who was able to make contact with her biological family.  In turns out she has a twin brother who is now married with 2 children and lives in Bucharest.  Plus she has an older sister who is married with one child and lives in Galați city.  Anca's father works at a foundry also in Galați.  All have visited us at the mission over the past year.

Your monthly contribution of $50 would go towards Anca's living
expenses— food, shelter, clothing, and any medical expenses.
Prayerfully consider giving toward her care.

Mihaita

Picture
Mihaita Ostafi
Birthday :
March 25 1992
Gender: Male
Location:
Nicoresti, Romania

About Mihaita:
Mihaita (mee hi eat sa) came to the mission with a heart condition and was not expected to live through the year.  After discussion with a heart doctor in Romania, it was recommended that he have a procedure Stenoza, to widen the arteries around the heart.  The instrument needed for this was not found in Romania (all for adults) so it was hand delivered to us from Ohio!  So over the mountains to a heart doctor and 2 yrs later, Mihaita was declared completely danger free!
One time while at the market we found a boy that was identical to Mihaita, obviously a brother, the boy was in foster care and we are still trying to locate him so they can have a brotherly relationship, please pray for this.
Mihaita assists with the physically disabled boys at Casa Rachel where he lives, he is able to give baths and help them dress.  He also works at the workshop daily and loves working with Tata Bruce on any project.  Very well rounded young man, he is unable to speak clearly but has progressed since he came to us in 1997.  He understands English and is able to communicate quite well.

Your monthly contribution of $50 would go towards Mihaita's living expenses— food, shelter, clothing, and any medical expenses. Prayerfully consider giving toward his care.

Alex

Picture
Alex Constantinescu

Birthday:
January 2 1992
Gender: Male
Location:
Casa Hannah, Nicoresti, Romania

About Alex:
Alex is the first boy to make his home at Casa Hannah.  Alex doesn't speak and needs complete care.  He is however very aware of his surroundings and has people that he prefers to be around him.  He can let you know real quick what his needs are.

We have had physical therapist for these children through the years but due to lack of funds we have had to drop that program.  We do the stretch exercises with the residents ourselves.  Alex is on meds for muscle relaxation, otherwise he is a healthy boy.  The older he gets the more I understand that he can be moody and brooding so we pray with him, try to keep him entertained to cheer him.  Sunday church services are his favorite activities.

Your monthly contribution of $50 would go towards Alex’s living expenses— food, shelter, clothing, and any medical expenses. Prayerfully consider giving toward his care.

Romeo

Picture
Romeo Radulescu

Birthday:
Dec. 13, 1987
Gender:  Male
Location:
Casa Rachel,
Nicoresti, Romania

About Romeo:
Romeo is a loner, likes to do things on his own.  He is great at housework and assisting with the wheelchair residents but also attends TRM Choir even though most times he won't talk.  He could be autistic but certainly does interact with us so his diagnosis is fuzzy.  Very hard to get a true diagnosis on these children/young adults in Romania.  American doctors visiting very often give us diagnosis on the spot.
So this is Romeo, loves to work, gets really excited about going away with Tata in the big van and generally is not a problem for anyone.  He is a sweet young man and easy to love.  Attends church each Sunday and also helps with the Friday Night Movies!

Your monthly contribution of $50 would go towards Romeo’s living expenses— food, shelter, clothing, and any medical expenses. Prayerfully consider giving toward his care.

Nicusor

Picture
Nicusor Darie

Birthday:

Jan. 19, 1988
Gender:   Male
Location:

Casa Rachel,
Nicoresti, Romania

About Nicusor:
Nicusor has been in our care since we first arrived in 1991, he was the size of a baby due to lack of food and exercise.  He gained strength in his legs but never was able to have the balance needed to walk more than a few feet, so just last year we got a wheelchair for him, for his own safety.
Nico loves to talk, mostly about food, loves his food!  Every Sunday Bruce asks the congregation what they are thankful to God for and Nicusor always says he is thankful that his legs still work!  Nicusor is mentally retarded, physically disabled and yet he recognizes what God has done for him.  He also always thanks God for Mama & Tata. He is a handful to care for but his attitude makes up for all the work.

Your monthly contribution of $50 would go towards Nicorsor’s living expenses— food, shelter, clothing, and any medical expenses. Prayerfully consider giving toward his care.

Florentin

Picture
Florentin Ibanescu

Birthday:  Oct. 31, 1982
Gender:   Male
Location:
Casa Rachel, Nicoresti, Romania

About Florentin:
Florentin is the mascot of our mission.  He is the total reason behind the building of the group homes.  I have never seen a child suffer as he did, always picked on, beaten and left without food because he could not walk to the dining area.  He was so tiny, I carried him on my hip everywhere, then slowly taught him to walk, he still does not talk completely (we understand him) and to smile and be happy, he is one of the most changed amongst the orphans.
Florentin now walks to workshop from his home, Casa Rachel, and completes his cross stitch work, he is a master at it, you can see his eyesight is bad but he manages to get some lovely pieces prepared to sell.  He still prefers to work alone and must be pulled into activities such as our spring dance, once involved, he loves it!
Florentin was abandoned at birth, no records on his natural parents and he has never asked about them.

Your monthly contribution of $50 would go towards Florentin’s living expenses— food, shelter, clothing, and any medical expenses. Prayerfully consider giving toward his care.

Tina

Picture
TINA CALIN

Birthday   Sept. 4, 1978
Gender:   Female
Location:
Nicoresti, Romania

About Tina:
Tina is the girl to call when you need a hand!  She is pleasant and always willing to help Mama with laundry and cooking.  We taught her early on to cook when she came to us in 1994.
Tina was able to complete 8th grade in a special school and then attended our "in house" school for many years.  She is a wonderful cross stitcher and attends the TRM workshop daily as well as assisting the wheelchair kids at Casa Hannah.  This girl loves Jesus with all her heart, when we first taught her about God in 1991, she was amazed that anyone could love her so!  She was abandoned at birth by her nomadic, gypsy parents.  Tina has never inquired about her birth parents, even when offered with that information.
Even though Tina is able to speak and has no physical disabilities, she will always need care due to mental problems, slight they may be.  Tina and Mama Sandie started the widows/widowers food program in 1995, it is a way to check on the elderly and assist when needed.

Your monthly contribution of $50 would go towards Tina’s living expenses— food, shelter, clothing, and any medical expenses. Prayerfully consider giving toward her care.

Andreea
Picture
ANDREEA VÎRLAN

Birthday: Nov 28, 2010

Gender: Female

Location: Casa Hannah
                Nicorești
                România

Andreea is the latest addition to the Tanner family.  .
We have no information on the parents but we found Andreea in a hospital in Galati and knew immediately that she has a home at Casa Hannah.  Andreea suffers from cerebral palsy.

She is so responsive to touch and speech; for example when we speak English she ignores me but when we switch to Romanian her eyes pop with attention!

Your monthly contribution of $50 would go towards Andreea's living expenses— food, shelter, clothing, and any medical expenses. Prayerfully consider giving toward her care.
Daniela
Picture
DANIELA SMADU

Birthday: May 29, 1991

Gender: Female

Location: Casa Hannah
                  Nicorești
                  România

Daniela has been our biggest challenge.  She came to the mission in 1997, at our original group home, Casa Elisabeta.  She had almost no control of her muscles and could not even sit upright without rigid support.

But she has always been strong-willed.  So with monumental work on her part and an equal dose of encouragement from caregivers and volunteers, Daniela was able to sit and stand erect, feed herself, etc.

Eventually Daniela learned to talk and is now among our chattiest residents.  She sings at the top of her voice and when in the Spirit, can raise even the dullest of souls.

Over the years we have had a tendency to spoil Daniela, and her behavior runs the gamut.  So she requires constant supervision and patience with well-defined limits.

Your monthly contribution of $50 would go towards Daniela's living expenses— food, shelter, clothing, and any medical expenses. Prayerfully consider giving toward her care.

Constantin
Picture
CONSTANTIN PUIU

Birthday:  July 5, 1994

Gender:  Male

Location:  Casa Rachel
                   Nicorești
                   România

Constantin came to us from the local orphanage with Petrica , among the very first group of boys to make Casa Rachel their home.  He proved to be a fast learner and before long his designation of being handicapped was removed and was accepted into the village kindergarten.

He has always been recognized for his quick mind, but his comportment has kept him from achieving, and it eventually led to his leaving vocational high school after the 11th grade. Constantin has largely overcome a tendency to stutter and is now perhaps the most communicative of all our residents.

Excelling in non-physical activities, Constantin is particularly adept at sewing, and he is the most conscientious of our creative workshop participants.  He is the one resident on whom we can count to assist in weekly shopping chores, having memorized the location of all the items we regularly need.

Constantin enjoys his own room on the second floor of Casa Rachel where his balcony allows him to supervise the goings-on in our playground and courtyard.  He gives the impression of being carefree, but actually internalizes everything, which led to a bout of stomach ulcers a couple years ago.

Your monthly contribution of $50 would go towards Constantin's living expenses— food, shelter, clothing, and any medical expenses.
Prayerfully consider giving toward his care.

Ciprian
Picture

CIPRIAN
BOLMADIR

Birthday: 10 November 1988

Gender: Male

Location: Casa Rachel
                  Nicoresti

Ciprian is one our most cooperative and industrious of residents.  Although he has a mild form of autism, he has become gregarious and desires to be occupied growing plants in his room as well as in the garden.

Having first arrived at Casa Elisabeta in 2000 from the local orphanage, he immediately became one of the favorites with employees and volunteers alike, with hid contagious smile and positive attitude.

He is especially adept at creating scale model houses out of tongue depressors, glue and cardboard.  Plus, he had developed to be a great help in lifting and transporting some of the more seriously handicapped of our residents.

Your monthly contribution of $50 would go towards Ciprian's living
expenses— food, shelter, clothing, and any medical expenses.
Prayerfully consider giving toward his care.
